Annual Candle Light Walk Will Take Place This Friday

The annual Candle Light Walk to the Christmas Box Angel will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 6 at Lakeview Cemetery, 2501 Seymour Ave.

Those who would like to participate in the walk should meet at the front gate of Lakeview Cemetery. Participants are asked to bring candles and white flowers to leave at the base of the Angel Statue in remembrance of loved ones lost.

Every year on this date parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, and other loved ones gather to make a short walk from the gate to the statue and share in a short presentation to celebrate the lives and memories of those who have past.

The Christmas Box Angel is one of many statues across the United States whose purpose is to give families a place to gather together and show support for one another in their loss and give them a dedicated time for remembrance. The Christmas Box by author Richard Paul Evans was written for his daughters as an expression of love that was not intended to be published.

Part of the story is about an angel statue in Salt Lake City Cemetery and the healing it brings to one of the characters in the book. After publication many readers wanted to visit this statue, but it had been destroyed in a flood in 1984. A new statue was erected thanks to the popularity of the book. Since then many more replicas have been placed in public across the country giving people their own angel to visit.

The Cheyenne Angel was dedicated on Aug 14, 2000.
